A Quieter Place: Why textlog Reminds Me of the Twitter I Actually Miss

I left Twitter before it became X. Not in some grand, principled exit — no manifesto post, no “see you on Mastodon” farewell thread. I just quietly stopped opening the app one day, and never really went back. By the time Elon Musk’s name was on the masthead, I was already gone. So when people ask if I miss “old Twitter,” I have to clarify: I don’t miss what it became right before the sale. I miss what it was years before that — a smaller, weirder, more sincere place.

Facebook again? Maybe? But they still suck

I left Facebook to get away from all the hate. But there’s community information there I find valuable and so I signed up again (after years away). And my account is suspended!

Somehow I didn’t follow their community standards EVEN BEFORE I LOGGED IN! I can tell you that all I ever did was leave Facebook and delete my account there. I certainly never “violated thier community standards” (as if they really have them with the hate they promote).
